Forklift Seals: A Brief Introduction

Forklift seals are critical components in hydraulic systems, Including cylinders, pumps,

valves seal and transmission seals.

They prevent hydraulic oil leakage and block contaminants like dust and moisture, directly

impacting lifting, tilting, and steering performance.

Classified as follows: and Their Main Functions:

1. O-Rings: Most common, used for static or reciprocating seals.

2. Wiper Seals (Scrapers): Installed on the cylinder's outer end to remove dust and dirt from

the piston rod, protecting internal seals.

3. Piston Seals: Mounted on the piston to prevent oil bypass between chambers,

ensuring lifting force.

4. Rod Seals: Installed in the cylinder head to prevent external oil leakage along the piston rod.

5. Guide Rings (Wear Rings): Support the piston rod to absorb radial loads and prevent

metal-to-metal contact.

Materials Used Generally:

1. Polyurethane (PU): High wear and tear resistance, ideal for main seals and wipers.

2. Nitrile Rubber (NBR): Good oil resistance and affordable, widely used for O-rings.

3. Fluorocarbon (FKM/Viton): Withstands high temperatures (up to 200°C+) and chemicals.

4. PTFE (Teflon): Extremely low friction, chemically inert.

Quick Selection Tips:

1. Choose original or premium brands (e.g., NOK, Parker, SKF, Trelleborg) for reliability.

2. Inspect the cylinder bore for scratches or rust before replacing seals.

3. Lubricate new seals with clean hydraulic oil during installation to avoid damage.
